So aside from this morning's setback, life is going pretty well. My birthday became a sprawling, three-day affair: Thursday I got a call about law review and
teleidoplex's gift arrived in the mail. Then my birthday rolled around and I saw Cowboys v. Aliens*, and I had dinner with my grandparents'. I expected all my gifts to be opened on Saturday when the whole family was there, but they were all OPEN THEM NOW! So I did.
Then I got Saturday's gifts, and, uh, holy wow. They were even cooler than Friday's (and I got bookshelves on Friday!) It was an endless parade of things just for me. Like flatware. I feel like such an adult, being excited for new flatware-- but it's so pretty!
The tally includes this aquarium. I asked for it specifically, partially because I priced out a marine aquarium I wanted and on the lowball side it came in at $1,200 (so, considerably more, even with lots of craiglist shopping). I think 6 gallons is enough for me for the time being. Now I have to find a table to put it on, since my cheap shelves won't hold this thing.
*For the past week or so I've been working on a short story, "The Fantastic Miss Jon Finds Her Fortune" which is a western about a yellowjacket and a honeypot ant. I live in Miami. This is my
third foray into stories about bugs/bug people, and I have yet to actually write about the incredible critters native here. But anyway, I was in the middle of writing out a description and realized that I required a western to get myself in the mood. Also I wanted to go to the movies. Cowboys v. Aliens is a remarkably good one (I mean, Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, and Olivia Wilde, how can it not be good?)
