Sleep Shouldn't Be So Hard
Oct. 6th, 2011 09:13 amThanks to my evening schedule, I have a hard time getting to sleep when I go to bed. Sure, I may get to bed at the appropriate 11 PM, but since I've been doing things up until then (who has time to "unwind" for half an hour?) I usually go to bed with my heart racing. Maybe not my mind, my eyes are sagging and I can't string together a coherent sentence, but my circulatory system is ready for a marathon. This can't possibly be related to my being on ADHD meds and taking them so they wear off around 7 or 8, no, not at all. /sigh
So I'm trying various sleepy-time teas. I tried Tazo's Rest, tempted by the inclusion of valerian root, and was immediately kicked in the face by citrus. I dunno about you, but all my "wake-up" stuff is citrus (my favorite shower gel, B Electro, proudly states that "zingy grapefruit... awakens the brain") and it's the last thing I want to associate with relaxing sleepy-time stuff.
I go to the store and look at all the sleepy-time teas, only to find that the vast majority of them advertise either mint or citrus/citrusy herbs as if they'd forgotten that it's a relaxing tea, not an invigorating one.
At the moment I'm drinking Badia's Linden tea, but it requires sugar to make it palatable.
I've seen TJ's Melatonin Chews recommended, but googling around reveals a lot of reviews and no products-- I suspect this is because TJ stands for Trader Joe's, and the closest one to me is in South Carolina (they will open one in FL! ...In Naples. idk wtf they're thinking instead of setting up shop in a college town). Still. Melatonin may be my next step, I just worry about getting myself out of bed eight hours later. If given the opportunity, I usually sleep 9-10 hours a night.
Uuuuugh it is so annoying. It's not quite insomnia, but it sucks. I know it's not insomnia, because Tuesday night (get home at 9, have to be up by 7) causes insomnia without fail. I'll get maybe an hour or two of sleep.
