Nov. 24th, 2011 01:44 pmYesterday, brinicle from BBC's Frozen Planet has been making the rounds. After seeing that, I read about the possibility of huge lakes under Europa's ice.
It got me in the mood for Space Noir. The alien race is a species more at home in a climate like Europa rather than Earth-- which prompted me to worry that they would come across like the aliens from Abyss, since... deep-sea dwelling aliens. Sure it was mostly prompted by too much Blue Planet, but deep water is a natural place to look for aliens. Though, I'd say "under the ice" is where you should go for really alien landscapes.
It sounds like space!
That's always what amazes me, when I go up north, particularly skiing. The sound of snow and ice is what drove me to set Nemesis the way I did, not because it's cold and desolate (which it is) but because snow is creepy. The papery rustling, the strange, muffled quality, all the colors that crawl unnaturally across the landscape... snow is spooky stuff. Maybe it's because I grew up in the subtropics that I feel that way, I don't know.
I don't know what I'd write about the aliens. I don't even know what they look like. But man that makes me itchy to write something.
Too bad I have to study for finals instead.
