Oct. 13th, 2012 12:20 pmIt became clear pretty quickly that I needed a better mouse for gaming-- one with more than the standard three buttons. So I upgraded my basic Logitech for the slightly flashier M510 model, which has the added bonus of actually fitting into my hand. I have tiny hands, you guys, and the cheapy little Logitechs hit the top of my palm and no further. No wonder I had wrist pain after using it.
You'd think that, being the same company, they have the same basic function, right?
No.
The new Logitech takes three times as much movement to cross the screen as the old one-- no matter how fast I set the mouse, it's like navigating a brick. I keep hearing Zapp in my head going "Ah, she's built like a steakhouse but she handles like a bistro." I'm okay using it for other things, but gaming? The thing I bought it for? Not so good. It's just too heavy-feeling and not sensitive enough.
Which means that I can't make tight turns in the game with the mouse even though I can now use mouse buttons to strafe-- I'm still using keyboard keys to turn because I can make them tighter and faster (which, uh, the whole point of being a mouse turner is so you're faster...?) This shouldn't be a wireless mouse problem because my old mouse was wireless and I could turn on a dime, and I have a crapton of experience kiting things.
So I went to Newegg to look at mice, because no brick and mortar store really seems to have a good display anymore, and it's not like I'm allowed to test them anyway.
And there's just no decent 5+ buttoned wireless mice. I have a glass desk so I really don't want a wired mouse, especially trying to move one around with a wire attached. At this rate I may go back to gaming with my giant trackball.
You wouldn't believe how fast I could turn!
...Couldn't do anything precise, but man could I spin.
