Oct. 31st, 2012 12:08 pmI sat down today and went "ah, nano!" and then realized it was Halloween.
Whateva, I do what I want.
I wasn't planning on nano, despite being what other writers call "prolific" and probably perfectly capable of handling 50k in one month, I find it ridiculously stressful to try to make the word count since, sure I can normally hit 1k+ a day, but then I'll have a few days of nothing which you can't do for nano. Then a friend pointed out it's a good networking opportunity because everybody comes out of the woodwork, so I decided that I'd be editing/finishing Queen of Swans, my lesbian Swan Lake YA novel. I haven't done any of the research on 12th century Germany/France or Persian Empire like I should have before getting into it, nor have I really upped my mood by reading a ton of fairy tales like I'd told myself, but I can fix it in post.
Wait, this is post. Crap.
It took a month of full time work to edit Morgan, so that's "fair" for nano, isn't it? I'll probably end up writing 50,000 at the end anyway.
As for music: I've discovered that I can watch/listen to whole ballets on youtube, too. I often used to listen to single pieces, but now I've got 2 hours or so of music. Which is pretty helpful since my classical playlist is starting to get a bit threadbare. There's only so many times you can listen to The Planets.
So why did I go straight to Swan Lake and Sleeping Beauty? I own those! I don't need to stream them on Youtube (but if you're interested, it's the Kirov ballet, which if you don't know ballet, is very good.) Granted a ballet isn't as good at sustaining a mood since it's got narrative highs and lows, so while 75% of Sleeping Beauty is exactly what I need for this scene, the other 25% is what I need for the later scene where there is fighting and UST. But I have no control over that, really.
