I found a new aquarium store thanks to the internet, and it was right on my way to Home Depot, so I swung in.

I. Uhm. Walked out with an aquarium.

Well not literally I guess. They were selling a 75 gallon with all the fixings-- including the fish-- for $500, a better price that could not be had on lesser aquariums. I priced out a new rimless aquarium (on sale no less) and the aquarium + fixings came out to about $850, and even then people think the one I bought is aesthetically superior. I've looked at so many aquariums, I cannot tell what constitutes good taste anymore. I know this is higher quality. Is it ugly? I can't tell! I rely on people with much better taste than myself to tell me what they thought.

I THINK IT LOOKS GOOD IDK I AM TERRIFIED BY HOW HUGE IT IS.

I'm pretty sure I could go swimming in it. With the canopy, it's 5' or so, which means it's taller than me. Behemoth tank raaawwwr.

I also found somewhere that will accept a donation of cichlids. I've never kept cichlids, and... and I dunno! They're cool? But I can't keep them with anything else. But when I put my hand in, they all came over because apparently they're trained to eat out of the hand. There's a bunch of convicts, a snow white, a peacock or two, and a red hook silver dollar. Keeping the cichlids means I have to do something about the denizens of my currently overcrowded aquarium. But everything else is so small for such a big tank....

Whatever I do, I will be keeping the golden bristlenose pleco at least. It is violently yellow.

I may need to change out the lights... we can't quite tell what sort of light they put out (60,000 kelvin, I think?) so it may not be enough for plants, especially at the bottom, but if it's just a matter of upgrading the bulbs it should be fine. And even buying new housing will only run $150.
