Things I See When I Go Outside

It rained for four days non-stop earlier this week, and then suddenly it stopped and turned cold-- it hasn't hit 80 in two days. The first cold snap (shut up!) always puts me in a cheery mood, because it reminds me of Christmas spent at Disney (when you're from Florida and a child of the early nineties, many Christmases are spent at Disney).

I'm in a good mood as I walk around, thinking of a weird west story I'm writing about bug people and contemplating the silkmoth seamstress and the nature of silkmoths in general-- I found out that 1) there are silkmoths native to the western US, and 2) one of them includes the Luna moth. The other US silkmoths are equally as pretty.

I took this knowledge and ran with it, and so one of the characters is a polyphemus moth, and isn't that cool, and

THAT IS NOT A LEAF.

I almost wanted to give it a little sign that says "I am not a leaf." I apologize for the bad picture quality, my phone doesn't like taking good pictures.

I honestly have no idea what it is, except for what it isn't (a leaf), but I found its appearance funny given that I was just thinking about bugs and my mildly alarming store of knowledge about them, which is vast. And when you say "that's because you live in South Florida" need I remind you this is a wild west story, and I populated an area on the edge of the not-actually-the-Sonoran-desert with primarily native fauna. Mostly off the top of my head.

I maybe watched too many nature documentaries as a child.
