My life is weird
Jun. 25th, 2012 05:41 pmMy life has been really... odd the past two weeks. Not for any one thing so much as an amalgamation of little bizarrities.
1. The engine in my car is knocking-- a steady, concussive sound that I can feel if I put my hand to the dash. It is not a knocking that anyone has suggested to me ("is it a CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK?" "No, slower" and so on). It is also not the oil. The earliest appointment I can get is for Thursday-- apparently being without car for fear it may leave me stranded (or worse) is not deemed an emergency. Seriously, if you are ever of a mind to get a Mercedes, make sure you have a mechanic not affiliated with Mercedes to fix your car, because their service is expensive and annoying. I thought this 1% shit meant good service! No. Or maybe it does for people with more expensive cars, I do drive the vehicle Mercedes discontinued because other drivers complained that it sullied the brand by allowing peons into their elite club. Whatever, it is still one of the best-looking cars ever made.
2. A while ago, my big computer had an issue where it kept responding to the space bar. At first I thought it was a stuck button on my keyboard and switched-- but I had the same problem. Then I removed the keyboard, rebooted, and it was still registering space. I barely managed to rescue the story I was working on at the time. Then I got lazy about calling the repair guy, since this had everyone stumped-- it had to be some weirdo thing with... uh, some card. Thing. I don't even remember. I tried turning on the computer today for a lark and it works. Maybe my computer wants to see Mass Effect 3's extended cut as much as I do?
3. I am doing worse on my practice questions for the bar than ever. I thought that is the opposite of what's supposed to happen.
4. I bought new angelfish a couple weeks ago! I finally went to Angelfish USA to pick out some really fancy angels. Two of them were $20 a piece, two were $10, and one was free because mom liked it but it's apparently not a very good fish. So I put the five of them in my 10 gallon for quarantine, and the two $20 fish are immediately beset upon by the others and torn up. I put the two expensive angels in the 20 gallon with the other babies.
5. One of my mollies appeared sick a few days ago. Not just sick but... wasting. There was that horrible OHGODNO moment when I realized what it meant. I'd watched the same wasting sickness take my 6 gallon down, but I hadn't used anything from the 6 gallon in the 75! How had he gotten the same sickness? I immediately moved the bully angelfish into the 20 gallon with a stern admonishment to play nice because they're the cheap ones, and dropped the molly into quarantine. The only anti-parasitic I can get my hands on is a general parasitic cure (metronidazole when I wanted flubendazole) and as time goes on my suspicions are confirmed. The molly is displaying all the symptoms of wasting disease as I've experienced them, like tail-standing. No one else in the big tank looks sick, and I debate medicating everyone.
6. Last night the filter in the 6 gallon stopped working. My options were to hope the two neons in it were safe while I figured out what to do, or to put them in the 20 gallon. They're in the 20 gallon and so tiny, but they have not been eaten yet. No one has even made a move to eat them.
Everybody on the first day! That is:
2x koi
1x green glimmer 50% wild peruvian (the guy with the stripe)
1x pinoy blue (the black guy)
1x pinoy shadow with pearlscale gene (the white guy)
Better view of that fancy pants pinoy blue.
The one in the middle of the flash is Mom's Fish.
"But Sam, you have three angels." I do! I wanted to add more to break up the aggression but apparently I don't have a fight-fest so much as I have a menage a trois, and the two females fighting while the male goes off not caring is highly unusual. So... I have no idea what happens now or what I plan to do, really.
