Dear internet: L2Statute
May. 12th, 2011 10:01 amThe "Florida banned sex, lololol" topic has come up in three communities I'm in, but what amazes me most isn't the stupidity in saying so, but in the fact that the comments weren't overflowing with "...that's dumb. What are you talking about?"
What are they talking about indeed? Florida just passed an anti-bestiality statute (to bring the state into conformity with the rest of the civilized parts of the US), and it includes a section that says this: An act relating to sexual activities involving animals; creating s. 828.126, F.S.; providing definitions; prohibiting knowing sexual conduct or sexual contact with an animal; prohibiting specified related activities; providing penalties; providing that the act does not apply to certain husbandry, conformation judging, and veterinary practices; providing an effective date.
If you don't see it, that's okay, neither did I. The argument is: humans are animals, therefore, humans can't have sex with each other, LOL.
Except the statute defines bestiality as sex between a non-human animal and a person elsewhere, so to reach this silly assumption the scientist had to 1) cherrypick from the statute-- ignoring the part within their own quote that says: creating s. 828.126, F.S.; providing definitions which indicates that there's definitions elsewhere, and 2) has to be really willfully obtuse in thinking person/animal sex means "human/human."
IDK about you, but I've never met another human being that wasn't a person. Never mind that anyone can look at human/animal and go "yeah, that's a person and a non-human animal." I'm pedantic, and even I'm not so pedantic as to misconstrue that "human" and "animal" aren't two different categories in general usage of the language. Actually, I am that pedantic, because a real pedant doesn't misconstrue anything. Unless these people have never called a bunch of non-human animals simply "animals," they're hypocrites, too.
And yet only one commenter in all three of those communities said "hey, this is stupid."
Keep on keeping on, internet, you're full of extraordinarily stupid people enamored of their own cleverness.
