So I'm playing Dragon Age 2, like you do, with half an eye on romance options and kind of harrumphing over how I can't romance Aveline or Varric because I so would-- actually I'd romance everyone because I love everyone and this is apparently my Isabella and Fenris playthrough, I didn't know I could end up sleeping with both of them in the span of about two hours. Anyway, so I'm muddling along, picking the right choices to me without really worrying about how I end up. Half my party is somewhere on the "I hate your face" scale, except Varric, who thinks I'm the shit.

Then Aveline kisses my Hawke!

Varric is the one true romance option. I maintain he censored his romance out because he's the one telling the story and he's kind of being interrogated by a dangerous woman.

Anyway, "I hate your face" is still good. You can have rivalry romances and everything. Aveline seems to kind of like you better if you're a rival than a friend.

Yeah. I went into the game intending to rivalmance Fenris and I ended up doing anyway because any time I do something I feel is "good" he wants to strangle me. He's not all the way at rival though because sometimes I accidentally make him happy because sometimes I swear it's so arbitrary! Poor guy, though. He is always low man on the totem pole. I thought it was just my party of him, Varric, and Isabella, but then I traded Isabella for Merril for a while and even Merril and Varric teamed up to pick on him. He's all "I can glow and rip your heart out of your chest! Stop picking on me. >:("

But Aveline likes you better, really? It seems like rivalmancing is superior with everyone.... And I took her out of my party because I was a chronic disappointment to her. Huh! Then again I did get a kiss.....

If you play snarky Hawke, it is so true! They have flirty banter aaaaaall the time. I don't know if this goes for nice or mean Hawke, but the snarky is hilarious.
