The more I play Skyward Sword, the more I wish I were playing Twilight Princess.

This tumblr doesn't help. Daaaaamn, but Twilight Princess had some gorgeous concept art.

Yeah. A month in and I'm still in my first trip to Lanayru. I don't think it's ever taken me a month to play a Zelda game except the handheld ones I never, ever finish (damn you, Ocean King's Temple and... wherever I am in Spirit Tracks!) I have no idea if it's just antipathy toward the game itself, or the Wii controls. I find myself making a lot of stupid mistakes and generally having trouble with the controls-- the inability to switch the Z and B buttons is killing me, because they've been swapped from the positions they would normally be in under your fingers. I'm told it's probably because I'm left-handed, but the game is supposed to be ambidextrous friendly. My inability to hit B in a timely manner is probably the main cause, since swordfighting is the only thing I'm good at.

I think it's less ambidextrous friendly than other wii games, really. It's designed for right-handed people, ultimately. OTOH, people seem to either love or hate the controls, so I don't think you're the only one who doesn't like them.

I like Skyward Sword a lot actually - it's not as epic or serious as Twilight Princess was but it's still a fun and engaging story. A lot of the mechanical changes make the game more fun and immersive.

I don't like a lot of the controls though; bug-hunting is hellish for example. Using the 'B' tools is awkward because 'B' used to be the trigger in Twilight Princess and accidentally putting the bomb away is not a smart thing to do when there's enemies closing (I have failed at so many ambushes and gotten my point-eared butt kicked for just such mistakes.)

I'm really not a fan of the targeted swordstrikes since the Wii Motion Plus is prone to misinterpreting what I do and again, it tends to be disasterous. Beamos are particularly sadistic.

Personal favourite - blew myself off a wall in Lanaryu and straight into quicksand when I pulled a bomb instead of the Beetle. Housemate still laughs at me. ^^;

Honestly, storywise, the thing that grates most is Vi. I keep accidentally calling her when trying to centre the remote and she keeps interrupting me at the worst time to point out the BLAZINGLY obvious. I KNOW we have to chase Zelda! I don't need to be reminded and stop telling me that I should 'be careful to choose my battles' - that monster is standing in front of the door I have to go through!

Honestly, part of why I prevaricated on TP was the Wii controls are utterly unforgiving. One mistake (like turning when someone comes into the room) can ruin you.
