My story about marrying spaceships, Socorro, just sold to Abyss and Apex!

It's especially funny because I figured it was a bit of an orphan child at nearly 9,000 words, which is a No Man's Land for fiction because short stories stop at 7,500 (and most places prefer less than 5,000) and while 7,500 - 20,000 (or so) is a novelette, places that will publish novelettes mostly want them over 10,000. I submitted the story in May and didn't hear back. I figured it was just rejected and woe, who would want this ridiculously long story about a lady pilot and a spaceship trolling the Internet for marriageable partners? Then boom! I got an email calling it "marvelous."

Clearly I should just name all my stories after vehicles, because those're the ones that sell best.

Also someone stop me, I keep writing romances with spaceships. And sometimes submarines.

I mean, sure. The subject is just begging to be explored what with manly captains and their ships who are always women despite being inanimate objects braving the mercurial lady-sea of feminine mystery, and someone has to question the power structures behind such a patriarchal system that stemmed from the metaphor, but let's face it: it was really just an excuse to write about spaceship feelings.

Congratulations! Love it when a misfit story gets picked up. And "marvelous"! That's so exciting. You'll have to let us know when it pubs, I'd love to read it.
